a yawning desert covers and oppresses a distant daemon-sphere pregnant with the stuff of a thousand earths. clouds of the same hue and attitude as the infinite sands gradually dominate the sky, possessed of a malign intelligence. a trans-generational caravan cuts an unforgiving line through the dunes in a fruitless mission to close its great mad circle, forever missing by just miles. it is a roving, innumerable harem in liege to an unsexed tyrant who sings them this song, reproduced here by resonant hole emissaries jeanne vomit-terror and ed sunspot, as the caravan commits the abominable act of transgressing the horizon into the infant sky-desert “above.” carl calm’s “gulf of night” mix is a monster, as is the great mike simonetti’s perverse interpretation!

the recordings for the wires cracked were completed in a frenzied two week period in october of 2012. i had mentioned in discussing a previous albums construction that i prefer to forget how i build any particular electro-acoustic amalgam. this is so that i dont get to precious with them, so that i could refine them further, so that the sounds themselves speak beyond their aggregate parts. with the album being relatively fresh in my mind, i can still recall various components to the wires cracked -- the desolate howl of a metal screen activated by a desert wind, the hissing air compression from the cooling apparatus for a laser at the slac national accelerator laboratory operated by stanford university, and the tremolo rhythms from a thin wire that still get me thinking fondly of günter schickert -- but much of the caustic drone, thrumming reverberation, and tactile grit thoroughly escapes me. that is probably for the best, since these various parts speak to an existential rupturing, the collapse of the self, the aftershocks of dark energy, and a belief in the hope for renewal. medical records is ecstatic to present the reissue of the essential >novels for the moons< by axxess. originally released in 1983, axxess is the brainchild of french multimedia artist patrick mimran. mr. mimran was co-director of lamborghini motors (along with his brother) at the time and fittingly released the album on the imprint lamborghini records. heavily influenced by german electronic pioneers klaus schulze, tangerine dream, and kraftwerk, mr. mimran commissioned the german engineer andreas bahrdt to build a custom complex synthesizer which eventually materialized into a 16 voice analog synthesizer of genius proportions.

after two re-releases of conrad schnitzler classics, (zug & ballet statique) now m=minimal releases a completely new work from the pioneer of electronic music. conrad schnitzler is a sound explorer. for many years, he has been on expeditions, journeys through his collection of electronic synthesizers almost every day. sounds he liked has been conserved on tape and stored in his sound library. the result is a huge library of audio files, he calls them >solen<. >borngräber & struever< have got the chance to examine that library and started to con-struct new pieces out of the hidden gems. these are not remixes but new compositions. none of the sound combinations were thought or heard before. the 8 tracks form an album independent of any trend and therefore it becomes a real acoustic environment for everyone. the album was produced at studio.wannsee. to give the album more authenticity, the complete audio processing was done using analog equipment. they not only used many classics among the finest synthesizers and outboard equipment, but also custom built tube gear. the icing on the cake are the tubes used from the 60s, which bought christian borngräber on a trip through the atacama desert in a small radio repair business in the city of calama. thanks to the desert climate even the packaging of the tubes looked as new
